The Shoals area of north Alabama is a retirement heaven - and we're
not the only ones who think so. American Express Corporation named
us the number eight most desirable place to retire. Bloomberg's
rates Alabama among the top states in "wealth retention,"
and The Searchers, a retirement organization, named the Florence
- Shoals Area an Outstanding Community for 2000, one of fewer than
160 in the country.
Alabama
has among the lowest property taxes in the country. The cost of
housing the Alabama is among the lowest in the country, and the
Shoals also offers affordable homes along the banks of the beautiful
Tennessee River.
Coffee Health Group, a regional healthcare provider, and Helen Keller
Hospital offer state-of-the art technology in a "high-touch"
environment. In addition, the Shoals has a variety of retirement
homes and nursing care facilities, depending upon the level of care
required. You can find it all in the Shoals!
Our many and varied educational institutions welcome retirees, with
continuing education programs and classes specifically aimed toward
the retiree market.
The Shoals is a recreational paradise. We have the best fishing
in America, and a wide variety of water sports; we have golf courses,
tennis courts, recreation centers and camping facilities. Our cultural
life is varied as well; our community theater groups, concert associations,
art musems, and festivals give our residents a variety of things
to choose from, at any given time.
Northwest Alabama enjoys four distinct, yet gentle, seasons. The
winters are not too harsh; the summers are not severe. Long springs
and beautiful falls make this a spectacular place to live, with
color in abundance everywhere.
Crime statistics show that the Shoals area is a safe place to live,
with crime rates well below the national average.
Don't take our word for it. Come and visit! Once you see all of
the wonderful things we have to offer, we think you'll agree that
the Shoals is the best place in the world to live.
